Jon Prophet

My old friend and fellow songwriter Jon Prophet is 'kickstarting' his new record and documentary project. I'm personally looking forward to the results as Jon is has a great voice and is always working on something interesting. Check out what he's up to here and if you have a few bucks make a donation.

Shipbuilding

Israeli-French-Tunisian Yael Naïm covers Elvis Costello's haunting masterpiece "Shipbuilding" with a beautiful alto solo by Antonin-Tri Hoang of the French National Jazz Orchestra (and possibly distracting random footage from the US civil rights movement).

Some interesting facts about the song's history can be found here.

Late to the Audra Mae party

This won't be news to anyone with ears who has watched Sons of Anarchy from the outset but Audra Mae's voice is something worth hearing.

Autodidacts of the world, unite! (a non-music related post)...

A Facebook friend posted a link to the Khan Academy -- a site autodidacts everywhere should celebrate. I haven't dug deeply into the site yet but first impressions suggest a world class teacher has decided to create a comprehensive, ground-up approach to learning math, from arithmetic to calculus and linear algebra on. He also deals with statistics, finance, and biology among other subjects. Your mileage may vary but it looks like a site worth knowing about.

website redesign and new video links

I've redesigned the website for the new year and will be updating the blog more frequently as I start up the recording process again.

Also, on the videos page I've linked from YouTube to some high quality videos from a beats the hell out of me 1994 Club Lingerie performance in Hollywood.

reviews of "young man's music" and "the seeds converse"

And here's Michael's review of the two records what are available here.

recent review of Machines of Loving Grace's "Gilt"

Music blogger Michael Lewis aka Kill-A-DJ gives MOLG's 'Gilt' a thoughtful, knowledgable, and mostly accurate review.

He also includes the record's orientation to the ansgty events of his own dreaded senior HS year (though unlike some giddy appraisers of BTHOOM's second record he fortunately makes no claims of it being a soundtrack to the acquisition of carnal knowledge).
